It wasn’t meant to be your divorce property

Real estate is often intended as a form of security for old age, for building up assets, or even as a future inheritance for children. In particular, however, it represents the center of life for families with children or couples and therefore has a high emotional value. This makes it all the more painful when a relationship fails.

Did you make sure everything was clear in advance and maybe even set out how to split up your stuff and assets in a prenup? – Congrats, you did everything right! In Germany, you’re in the tiny minority.

Often, following an already difficult separation, the former shared property becomes the central point of contention and, unfortunately, also a cost trap. The failure of the relationship already presents former couples with a multitude of bureaucratic problems, not to mention the emotional strain. On top of that, the sensitive issue of real estate is often put on hold for the time being.

However, a quick decision can save a lot of money. So don’t let it turn into an expensive war of the roses. It is often helpful to discuss the situation in the presence of a neutral third party to avoid further escalation. That is why we have undergone additional training in mediation at our office and have a certified mediator, Ms. Magri, at our disposal. This enables us to ensure that we advise you objectively and competently, while treating all parties fairly.

Of course, we can also provide you with an appraisal of your property.

Let us advise you, if necessary in one-on-one meetings, on the best course of action for you. We will then work together to find the right solution for you.
